Uniform and Appearance
At The Hollins, we believe the school uniform achieves three important goals:
• It encourages a sense of community identity and pride. By wearing the same badge and the same clothing, pupils are encouraged to think of the needs of the community as well as their own individual needs. Our coloured collars ensure year groups feel this pride amongst their immediate peers.
• It encourages our pupils to develop positive habits for life. By learning to look after their uniform and attend school in a smart and clean uniform, pupils learn the habits of discipline and personal responsibility that will stay with them for life.
• It discourages unkindness or bullying while managing costs. By requiring all our pupils to wear the same lower-cost uniform, we reduce the incentive for pupils to ask parents for the latest (and more expensive) items of fashion. As a result, costs are kept as low as possible and each child is treated equally. We work hard with our suppliers to ensure that our uniform is as cost-effective as possible to support parents.
However, for our uniform policy to be successful, it must be implemented universally and without exception. Our parents understand this and so support us from home to uphold our high standards.
We understand that, for some families, finances are tight. We believe that, by doing all we can to keep items of fashion out of school, we help families to keep costs down. Nevertheless, if you do have an individual problem, or you are unsure about an item of clothing, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s year co-ordinator who will deal with your enquiry in the strictest confidence.
At The Hollins, we are clear about our standards of uniform in school. This is a way in which we ensure that each of our pupils looks as smart as all others.
To make uniform more affordable for parents, we hold a second-hand uniform sale in the summer term for current and new parents. We encourage parents to donate unused uniform to the school or to the Hyndburn Uniform Swap Shop in Accrington Market Hall.
Any pupil not in possession of one of the items of correct uniform, or wearing uniform in an incorrect manner, will be placed in isolation until a parent or carer can bring the correct item to school. In the event that a pupil is not wearing the correct uniform and the parent cannot bring the correct item to school then they will be sanctioned accordingly.

Uniform Costs
As a school we do our best to keep uniform costs to a minimum. the costs of the uniform are approx £28 and the basic PE kit is £27 making our uniform cost £55 plus the costs of shoes, trainers and socks.
