Admissions (Year 6 to Year 7)

Applying for a school place is an exciting and important decision for any family and we strongly urge you to do your research when making this choice for your child. Initially, you should always read the school’s admission arrangements and you can find ours by clicking on the link below. We have also included a copy of the geographical priority area (GPA) for The Hollins so that you can check if you are in our catchment area.

  • If you are not in the catchment area, please do not let that put you off applying. If there are more applications than places the school’s admission arrangements contains all the rules used to decide which children we can offer a place to. The birth rate in the area for that year also plays a big part on the places offered. Although living in a catchment area does not guarantee a place at the school the closer your home is to the school, the better chance you have of being offered a place.
  • Please be aware that your family’s childcare arrangements can’t be taken into account when allocating places. You should explore all options to make an informed decision.
  • Please make sure that you use all of your three choices on the Lancashire County Council admission form as this will give you a better chance of getting a place at a school you want. Putting down one single option does not give you a better chance of getting that particular school. All school preferences are equal and schools are not allowed to favour a child who listed the school as their first preference.
  • A late application may reduce your chances of getting a place at a preferred school.

If your application to The Hollins has been unsuccessful you do have the right to appeal.  An appeal timetable is normally provided by Lancashire County Council at a later date within the process and we will publish this, and further information, as soon as it is available.

The deadline to apply for a Year 7 place was 31 October 2024, if you have not yet made your application for a Year 7 place for September 2025 please contact the local authority on 01254 220747.
