Year 7 Welcome Information - Year 6 into Year 7

A very warm welcome to The Hollins School!

Your child will be joining Year 7 in September.

Please see below a list of key dates linked to your child’s transition:

 

Time Event
Primary Visits – June 2026 The Head of Year 7 (Mr Bedford) and Assistant Headteacher (Mr Hunter), will visit most pupils in their primary school. Each child attending The Hollins will receive a transition pack to take home to their parent. There will be alternative arrangements made for pupils at the schools that are not visited, and transition packs will be posted out.
New Intake Day / Evening – Thursday 2nd July 2026 New Year 7 pupils should arrive at the school reception entrance for 8:30am. To avoid congestion in the car park, please drop your child off and leave the premises immediately. Primary school uniform should be worn on the day. We will provide your child with a snack and lunch. However, if your child has any dietary needs or allergies, please send them with a packed lunch. Pupils are to be picked up from The Hollins at 2:45pm. If you are happy for your child to walk home after this visit, please call the school office on 01254 233500 to confirm. Otherwise, please pick your child up at 2:45pm prompt from the school reception entrance.

The information evening is for the pupil and a maximum of 2 adults. The event will start at 6:00pm and finish at 8:00pm. Parents and pupils are expected to attend the intake evening. It is a compulsory event where we will share a lot of very important information to help  make sure your child’s transition to The Hollins a real success.

Summer School – Monday 20th July – Friday 25 July 2026 inclusive We offer a 5-day Summer School for our new Year 7 pupils to support their transition into secondary school. This is offered to all pupils, and is an excellent opportunity for your child to get to know the school, some staff and meet new friends prior to starting at The Hollins.

The start of the new academic year for Year 7 pupils. Pupils will be introduced to their new timetable, form groups etc. The only other pupils in school on that day will be our Year 11’s.

The start of the new academic year for all other year groups.

Year 7 Team Building Day

9th and 10th September (depending which form they are in).

 

All Year 7 pupils will take part in a variety of different team building exercises, giving them a wonderful opportunity to build positive relationships with their peers and members of staff. This will take place at Outdoor Elements. Details regarding arrangements and the cost of this activity day will follow.
