Government Announcement – BTEC/Vocational Exams

Over the next few weeks we have a number of external BTEC and vocational examinations taking place. On Monday 5th January 2021 the Government announced these exams can be postponed but the decision sits with the school.

All of our students and staff have worked so hard preparing for these exams during the first term and  a lot of revision has taken place over the Christmas holiday. With this in mind, we have decided to continue with the exams as planned.
.
As a school, we understand if you are nervous about sending your child in for exams, however, we really feel it is in your child’s best interest to sit these examinations.  As school is currently closed to the majority of our students we are able to make use of the additional space to ensure exams are conducted in as safe a way as possible with our seating arrangements exceeding social distancing recommendations.  We will take every step possible to make this safe for our students and our staff.

If you are currently ill with Covid-19 or self-isolating/shielding we may have the option to defer your child’s exam to the next available series but there is no guarantee. Similarly, if you are anxious about your child sitting the exam due to Covid-19 you have the same option as above.

If you fall under either of the categories above please Mrs Eastham our exms officer exams@thehollins.com

As always, thank you for your support at this difficult time and please contact us if you need any help/support over the coming weeks.

Update 15th January 2021

A huge well done to our students who have now sat their January exams in Sports Studies, I-Media, Engineering and Child Care.  We were incredibly proud of their maturity, resilience and ambition.

The Government have now cancelled all BTEC exams in February and March.  We know how hard our students have been working to prepare for these and that they are incredibly disappointed.  Rest assured we are working hard to ensure that we are fully up to date with all developments and that our students will not be disadvantaged.  Please contact school should you wish to discuss this.
